Brushstroke Birthday

October 1, 2017

This card was inspired by the current Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Heavy Metal. I had just received the SSS October Card Kit and the new Steel Navy embossing powder. It is such a cool embossing powder; it appears to be a dark metallic blue.

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I began this card by stamping and heat embossing the sentiment on the lower part of the card base. I used the navy embossing powder for the sentiment. I added a heart with silver embossing powder. I added stripes to the rest of the card using the same embossing powders and three shades of aqua inks. It was a very simple card to create; however, I love the results.

Resist Birthday Cards

September 24, 2017

My husband’s best friends’ birthday was last week. My kiddos made him some birthday cards. They had such a good time playing with water coloring and resists.

Size:  Vertical side fold and a Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  We began these cards with panels of water color paper that I had die cut with a stitched rectangle die. Each kiddo decided on their card design and I used Versa Mark and white heat embossing powder to create the designs.

We used Distress Ink as water colors. I taped the panels down first. Then the kiddos painted on some clear clean water on their panels and began dropping in colors. We let the first layers of color dry while we had dinner. Then we added a second layer of color. After the second layer was dry, we added some splatters of ink.

Once the splatters were dry, we adhered each panel to a coordinating card base with foam tape. The kiddos were so please with their creations.

Otterly Merry Christmas

September 10, 2017

My Simon Says Stamp and Lawn Fawn “Christmas Like No Otter” set arrived in the mail this weekend. I couldn’t wait to play with it. Here is the first card I made with this set.

Details

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I began by stamping all of the images on white card stock. I used Prismacolor pencils to color everything in. Then, I fussy cut everything out. I cut right on the stamped line for everything except the seaweed. I painted the edges of black to hide any cutting errors.

Next, I created a dark brown card base. I used white pigment ink to stamp a wood grain pattern on the card base. While that was drying, I die cut three stitched circles for three different shades of blue paper. I used the lightest blue shade as the sky. I used a scalloped border die to create waves on the other two blue circles. I layered all the circles together to create an ocean scene.

I adhered the seaweed around the circle like a wreath. I added the red bow at the bottom to complete the wreath look. I stamped the sentiment next. I used a mini action wobble spring to adhere the otters to the middle of the circle.

Lastly, I adhered the circles to the card base with foam tape. These otters are soooo cute; I can’t wait to make more cards with them.

Water Color Thanks

August 31, 2017

This card was selected as a winner for the Simon Says Stamp Flickr #78 challenge!! This is this first time one of my cards has been chosen as a winner of a challenge.

August 27, 2017

While I was making Halloween and Fall card sets for the local basket raffle, I decided I should make a Thank You Set as well. I made five cards and envelopes for this card set.

Extra Details:  I began these cards with five card bases made from water color paper. I stamped the strips in black ink on the left side of the card bases. I stamped the sentiment in the center of the card bases. I wanted the sentiments to stand out a bit from the stripes so I clear embossed them.

Then, I added some water color splots to the card fronts. I used Distress Inks and acrylic blocks to add the color to each card. Once the slots were all dry, I added some flicks of the same color and a few black ones also.

Details

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I began with a card base made from water color paper. I stamped and colored the card front first. I used masking to hide the mouse behind the box. I traced a circle die to create the white highlight around the images. I used a water brush and Crayola Fine Line markers to color everything in. I used a grey ink to add the confetti to the colorful rays.

While the card front was drying I stamped and die cut all of the images for the inside of the card. I used the same markers and water brush to color everything in.

While those were drying, I die cut the stitched hillside pop up and another plain stitched hillside from a few shades of green card stock. I also die cut “celebrate” from holographic paper and plain card stock so I could layer them. I also die cut the posts from water color paper and colored them brown.

Next, I decorated the inside of the card. I used a puffy cloud die to trace with the blue marker. I used a water brush to move the color around and create a soft cloudy sky. Once the clouds were dry, I added the stamped confetti. I used the same markers to color them in.

Once the card base was dry, I began assembling the card. I adhered the green hills first. Then, I added the animals and balloons. The confetti was the last thing I adhered. I used glue dots, double sided tape, and liquid glue to adhere everything.

Black and White and Orange

July 18, 2017

I made this card to enter in the Simon Says Stamp Flickr Challenge #75; Black and White with a Splash of Color. The title of this challenge inspired me to so some ink blending for my splash of color.

35973192286_b878bdca19_o

Details

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I began with a small square of water color paper. I ink smooshed some orange Distress Inks on an acrylic black and pressed it on the paper. I let the paper and ink sit over night because I forgot about it. Once I remembered to remove the block, I let the paper finish air drying.

I stamped a large floral image with black ink on the water color square. I also added a few flicks of grey ink to the panel as well. I added some foam tape to the back of this panel and set it aside.

Next, I created a black card base. I choose a panel of black and white striped patterned paper as a layer for my card. I added some flicks of orange ink to the patterned paper for added interest.  I adhered this panel to the black card base and adhered the water color panel on top of it.

I choose to skip a sentiment this time around. I like the versatility of not having a sentiment gives me.

Mother’s Day Animals

April 30, 2017

Today I made a trio of Mother’s Day Cards for some important ladies in my life. Luckily each one had a favorite animal and I have a stamp of each animal. The card design is the same for each card; I just changed the colors and animals.

Extra Details:  I began by die cutting a panel for the front of each card. I also die cut the word Happy from each panel. While my die machine was out, I die cut three banners from white card stock also.

Next, I stamped the images. I used grey ink so that the images would appear softer. I filled in some of the open spaces with the small hearts. I used colored pencils to color in the images.

Then, I adhered the panels to the card bases. I stamped the large Happy in the die cut on the panel, making sure to line it up carefully. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment on the banner and adhered the banner to the card base.

Alicorn, Fairy, and Sparkles

April 17, 2017

Spring Break means lots of fun card making! I made two cards today. They have similar techniques and design details.

33281151624_ef3bae4578_o

Card One: Alicorn and Sparkles

33312032233_19cd52c338_o

Card Two: Fairy and Sparkles

Details

Size:  A2 cards

Extra Details: I started by creating two card bases from water color paper. Next, I did some ink blending. I used a circle mask for the alicorn card and a triangle-ish mask for the fairy card. I used three colors of Distress Ink to make the rainbow on each card. I added some water flicks to add some distressing to my inked backgrounds

For the alicorn card, I die cut a stitched hillside from some more water color paper. I stamped the sentiment in black ink and clear heat embossed it. Using Mowed Lawn Distress Ink, I blended just a bit of green to the area where the alicorn would be standing. I adhered the hillside with two layers of fun foam in the middle and just double sided tape at the edges. I really like the dimension that created.

For the fairy card, I masked off the rainbow and used some cloud border die cuts as masks to create the rest of the background. I used Salty Ocean Distress Ink.  I added some stars with white embossing powder to the rainbow area. I made a mistake when stamping the sentiment on this card. Apparently, white embossing powder and black ink do not mix well. To cover my mistake, I stamped a cloud and re-stamped the sentiment and used clear embossing powder this time. I added a second cloud to help cover my mistake.

Next, I stamped the alicorn and fairy on a scrap of water color paper. I clear embossed these images also. I used Crayola Fine Line Markers and a water brush to water color these images. Once they were dry, I fussy cut them out leaving a small white border.

I adhered the alicorn and fairy to each card using dimensional glue dots. I also added some silver glitter stars and sequins to the rainbow areas. I love the way these cards turned out.

Wild Christmas Tags

April 5, 2017

The newest Simon Says Stamp products in my craft room are from the Simon Says Stamp April 2017 Card Kit. I love the stamp set and ink colors, but I wasn’t sure what to do with the kraft tags. I really only use tags at Christmas time; and usually I make my own white tags. In the end, I did have fun creating this tags and I already know which holiday gifts they will be going on.

32959603874_32d7f6072f_o

Details

Size:  tags

Extra Details: I started by stamping and coloring my animal and hat images. This was the first time I used the penguin from this stamp set.   I used colored pencils to color everything. After fussy cutting everything out, I painted the edges with a black marker.

For the tags, I started by ink blending some white pigment ink in the center area of each tag. Then I stamped the falling snow in the background with the same white pigment ink.

While the ink was drying, I created the snowy hills. I die cut a stitched hillside for and trimmed it down to the size of the tag. I adhered the hills to the tags and stamped the sentiments in black ink.

I adhered the hats to the critters with glue dots. I adhered the critters to the cards with double sided tape. To finish the tags, I added some red and white twines form my stash.
