Balloon Pop Ups

March 14, 2017

Snow Day means Crafty Day! My kids spent the morning painting and I spent the afternoon card making. Overall, a great way to deal with too much snow!

I made 3 cards with pop –up insides today. The following two are the same card design with different colors.

Details

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started by die cutting the balloon shapes with a Simon Says Stamp die. After die cutting, I used my Mini Ink Blending tools to add color with Distress Inks.

Next, I created my card bases from some light blue cardstock. I made four card bases like this. I stamped a variety of clouds on the front and inside of the card bases using white pigment ink. For the solid cloud images, I used second generation stamping for a lighter impression.

I stamped and white heat embossed the Happy sentiments on some scraps of white card stock. Using some of the same Distress Inks, I added color to the Happy’s. I also stamped the Bigfoot images using two shades of grey ink. I water colored the Bigfoot images with Distress inks also.

Then, I pulled out my die cutting machine again. I die cut the Polaroid frame twice from white card stock and twice from some white fun foam. Then, I adhered the card stock to the fun foam. I also cut the Forest Border form darker green card stock and the Grassy Border from some lighter green card stock. I made four of each. I used the Everyday Pop Up dies from Lawn Fawn to on the darker green panel to create some pop up tabs.  I used the matching dies for the Happy sentiments and the Bigfoots.

I created the insides of my cards first. I started by adhering the darker green pop up panel to the card base. I used glue dots on the pop up tabs to adhere the grassy border piece. I repeated this on the other card bases. I only used two card bases for these cards. I saved the other two for future cards.

Next, I decorated the front of the cards. I adhered the balloons to the card bases with liquid glue.  I tried to make the balloons look natural by allowing some of them to hang off the edge of the card base. I used the smaller pieces to fill in empty areas on other edges. I stamped the smaller part of the sentiment on the frames and adhered the Happy die cut. Then I adhered the frame to the card front.

Lastly, I created a balloon bunch for each Bigfoot using glue dots. I adhere the balloons to the Bigfoot, and the Bigfoot to the grassy panel. I also added a few balloons behind the Bigfoot on the card base it’s self.
