Welcome Baby Snowman Pop-Up

December 31, 2016

I don’t know how it happened or how I survived, but I did. I have made it through another December. The kiddos had a great holiday season with visits to Santa, plays, gatherings with family and friends, baking sessions, and many gifts to open. My poor blog has been much neglected this month. I am taking this last day of 2016 to post everything I made in December. The details may be scarce but at least there are pictures.

There are many new babies arriving this month. This is a pop-up card, I made for a family friend expecting baby #5. I was looking through my stash and found a few snowmen that would make a cute baby card for a winter baby.

This card is for a family friend who welcomed baby #3 a few days ago. The new baby has two big bothers that are very excited to meet her.

Welcome Baby Chick Card

A cousin of mine just welcomed her 3rd baby. I made this card with one chick for each of her children. I love the Chirpy Chirp Chirp set, it’s so cute.

Flamingo Wedding

October 13, 2016

Today, I made another wedding card for my cousin. I really have no idea if he or his wife-to-be like flamingos, but I couldn’t resist using this sentiment.

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started by die cutting a stitched circle from water color paper. Then, I stamped the images on the circle with Versa Fine black ink. I used my Distress Inks as water colors when adding color to these images.

While the water coloring dried, I worked on the sentiment strip. I cut a thin strip form some black card stock. Using white embossing powder, I heat embossed the sentiment. I adhered the strip to the white card base and trimmed any excess off.

Before, I attached the stamped circle; I found a black circle to layer behind it. The black circle was left over from a different project and has clear embossed chevron strips on it. I adhered both circle to the card base and was done.

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s Flamingo Together, Critters from the Past, Mermaid for You, and Chevron Backdrops

Dies Used: Simon Says Stamp Stitched Circles

Ink: Versa Fine

Distress Inks in Carved Pumpkin, Lucky Clover, Brushed Corduroy, Hickory Smoke, Mermaid Lagoon, Picked Raspberry, Shaded Lilac, and Walnut Stain.

Pink and Gold Wedding Card

October 12, 2016

This is another wedding card for my cousin. My grandmother asked for a handmade card that was pretty but not sappy. So I used the wedding invite as inspiration for this card.

Details

Size:  Horizontal side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started with a pink panel cut slightly smaller than an A2 card front. Using a circle die and a pencil, I lightly traced a circle on the card stock. Then I went through my stamp stash looking for any stamps that reminded me of the wedding invite. I found a bunch of dotted swirly stamps. Using Versa Mark ink and gold heat embossing powder, I created a design on my panel. I added some ink blending to the edges of the panel with Distress Inks to add interest.

Originally, this was intended to be a vertical card, but I could not find/create a Congratulations sentiment that would fit in my circle. So I turned the panel on its side. I stamped Congratulations on a strip of velum in Versa Fine black ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder. I added the gold hearts to the circle to fill in space.

Before adhering all of the elements together, I dipped the edges of the pink panel and the velum strip in Versa Mark ink and added some gold embossing powder. I love the way this turned out.

Lastly, I wrapped the velum strip around the pink panel and adhered everything to the white card base.

Wedding Books

October 11, 2016

One of my cousins is getting married this month. This is the card that my family will be giving to the happy couple. I find this card hilarious because my cousin works in a library and spends as much time reading as possible.

Details

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started by die cutting a stitched rectangle from some water color paper. I stamped the books, details, and sentiment on the panel. The top hat is from Snow Cool. The pearl tiara is from Mermaid For You. Using a thin black Sharpie, I added arms, legs, and a veil.

Once all of the ink was dry, I used Distress Inks to add color to the images. I tried to keep the colors on the light side.

To finish the card, I layered a pink piece of card stock at an angle on my card base and trimmed off the parts that hung over. I adhered my stamped panel and was done.

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s Snow Cool, Mermaid for You, Happily Ever After, and Science of Love

Dies Used: Lawn Fawn’s Small Stitched Rectangles

Ink: Versa Fine

Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Mermaid Lagoon, Cracked Pistachio, Black Soot, Milled Lavender, Hickory Smoke, and Salty Ocean.

Golden Celebrate

September 9, 2016

One of my co- workers needed a card for a seventieth anniversary. I had a lot of fun creating this card for her.

Details

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started by die cutting the word celebrate seven times from water color paper. I coated one die cut in Versa Mark ink and covered it with gold embossing powder. After heat setting the embossing power, I allowed it to cool while I worked on the rest of the card.

I glued the rest of the die cuts to the front of the card base. I was having trouble keeping the glue on the very delicate die cuts; I will have to try something different next time. I glued the gold die cut right on top of one of the white die cuts.

Then I smooshed some Versa Mark ink on the right edge of the card front. I added some more gold embossing powder. To soften the edge of the embossing powder, I used a dry paint brush to brush some of the embossing powder off of the edge. Lastly, I heat set that embossing powder and the card was done.

Dies Used: Essentials by Ellen’s Zipper Panel Die set

Ink: Versa Mark

Love in all Seasons

July 16, 2016

This is the anniversary card I made for my husband. Our anniversary may only come once a year, but I love him all year long and wanted to let him know.

Details

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started by making the top layer of this panel. Using a ruler, pencil and my paper trimmer, I cut four windows in a panel of water color paper. I silver embossing the sentiment on this panel.  I used the window panel to lightly trace the windows on the card base. Using the pencil lines as a guide, I stamped and white embossed various images in each window. I used Post-It tape to help mask areas that the stamps would have overlapped. Once the embossing was cooled, I began ink blending in each area. I also used Post-It tape to help contain the color to only one window area. I used two Distress Ink colors in each area. I flicked some water on the card base to add interest. Lastly, I popped the window panel up on fun foam and adhered it to the card base.

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s Bee Mine, Frosties, Happy Summer, Into the Woods, Lucky Stars, Penelope’s Blossoms, Ready Set Shake, Ready Set Snow, and So Thankful

Paper: water color paper

Ink:  Versa Mark

Distress Inks in Cracked Pistachio, Mowed Lawn, Ripe Persimmon, Salty Ocean, Seedless Preserves, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, and Twisted Citron

Monograms and Flowers

July 10, 2016

I am entering this card in the Lawnscaping Challenge #133: Mood Board Inspired.

I saw all the monograms on this mood board and wanted to do something with a monogram. I ended up making two cards. I used the color combination from the mood board on one of the cards. The other is a first anniversary card, so I used the colors from the happy couple’s wedding instead.

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  Both cards are one layer cards, so I started by creating my card bases out of white card stock. I stamped the frame in a light grey ink in the middle of both card bases. I stamped the lines on the side also in light grey ink. Obviously, one set of lines worked out better than the other set. I added the monograms in the center of the frame. The T on the purple/green card is from the large THANKS in the A Good Apple stamp set. I added hearts to the purple/green card as this is the first anniversary card. Then I started added flowers and leaves all around the edge of the card front. One the blue/yellow card I used the same blue ink to water color the frame in for added interest.

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s A Good Apple, Flirty Frames, Penelope’s Blossoms, Riley’s ABCs, Sally’s ABCs, and School House Backdrops

Ink: Simon Says Stamp Slate and Smoke inks

Distress inks in Dusty Concord, Mustard Seed, Peacock Feathers, and Squeezed Lemonade

Blue Tree Wedding Card

June 29, 2016

One of my husband’s cousins is getting married in a few weeks. Her wedding invitation was dark blue with a white tree on it. As soon as I saw it, I knew exactly how I wanted her wedding card to look.

Extra Details:  I started with a dark blue panel. I trimmed it to 5.5 x 3.25 inches. I added some detail to the right edge with the Stitched Border dies. Then, I stamped and heat embossed the tree, leaves, and sentiment. I used white embossing powder. I wanted to give the card a little something extra, so I dry embossed the card front with a Darice embossing folder. I popped the blue panel up on fun foam and was done.
