Watercolor Monkeys

July 14, 2017

My daughter also loves the Love Ya Bunches stamp set. This is the card she designed using it. I helped with stamping and blending out the water color pencil.

Extra Details: We began this card with two panels of water color card stock. We stamped the images in Barely Beige ink. We didn’t worry about masking anything because the ink is such a light color. Then my daughter went over all of the lines with water color pencils. I also added some blue to the sky areas.  Using a water brush, I helped her move the color around. I love this look; it is so delicate and pretty.

Once the images were dry, we stamped the sentiments in brown ink. I felt black would have been too harsh. Lastly, we adhered the panels to a dark green card base.

Extra Details:  I began this card by digging out of the colored and cut images I had form the Let’s BBQ set. I know that I used Distress Inks to water color all of the images, but I am unsure of which colors I used.

Once I had all of the images, I started playing with my layout. When I found something I like, I adhered everything to a panel of kraft card stock. I made sure to leave room at the bottom for the sentiment. I adhered some of the images flat and used foam tape on others. I white heat embossed the sentiment to help it stand out.

Next, I grabbed a white card base and stamped more images on the edges using Barely Beige ink. I stamp a sentiment on the inside also and added two more images. Lastly, I adhered the kraft panel to the card base.

Easter Thanks

April 18, 2017

Not only does Spring Break mean crafty time for me, it also means crafty time for the kiddos. My daughter was painting today and my son made this card. He made this card as a thank you for his aunt who made an egg hunt for us on Easter.

Details

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  This is a one layer card. We just stamped everything on right on the card base. My son colored the eggs with his crayons.

I really like the way the leaves turned out on this card. We stamped the leaves on the ends of the branches using two shade of green ink. We did some partial inking to create two toned leaves. Then, we used second and third generation stamping to fill in the areas behind the branches and eggs. I would ink the same leaf stamp with the light green ink, stamp it on my scrap paper once, and then stamp it two or three times on the card base. I think it gave the card a super cool dimensional look.

Then she sat down with a stack of glue dots, her images and a blue card base. She also added the year to the back of the card. She had such a good time creating this card with only a little help from me.

Gold Foil Thank You Cards

March 9, 2017

Some of my daughter’s friends gave her a coloring book and some markers this week. It’s an adult coloring book with gold foiling and some very fine time markers. She is very excited about it. She decided to make her friends Thank you Cards using a page from the coloring book.

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 cards

Extra Details:  First, my daughter picked a page from her new coloring book and colored it in with her new makers. The markers are water based so we used a water brush to move the color around and smooth it out.

Once the page was complete and dry, we die cut stitched rectangles that would cover an A2 card front. We adhered the panels to the white card bases.

I used a scrap of water color to create the water colored Thanks. I scribbled a blue marker, and then used a water brush to smooth the color out. Then I die cut a Scripty Thanks. I repeated the process with a green marker. I layered one Thanks over a strip of black card stock. The other I layered with a left over black Thanks die cut. Once the Thanks were adhered, the cards were complete.

Extra Details:  We began by die cutting the dark blue rectangle from some Lawn Fawn patterned paper. First, I cut a cross stitched rectangle that would cover an A2 card front. Then, using some stitched circles die, we cut out some windows. I lined the dark blue piece up on the card front and lightly traced the circles so I would have a guide for the stamping. Next, we stamped the Ninja’s so only part of them would show in the circles.

On the inside of the card, I stamped the custom sentiment and some more ninjas. My daughter colored everything in with colored pencils and gel pens.

Lastly, I adhered the dark blue panel to the card front using foam tape.

Robot Tag Birthday Card

Extra Details:  We began by die cutting all of the layers for the front of the card. We created a light blue card base, a stitched rectangle from black patterned paper, a stitched rectangle from grey paper, and a white cardstock tag. I dry embossed the card base and grey layer with a Darice gears embossing folder. I adhered the black layer and grey layer to the blue card base at wonky angles. We added some stamping to the tag. My son used colored pencils to add color. To finish the tag, we added a black re-enforcer and some twine. We used strong double sided tape to adhered the tag to the card front.

Once the front was done, we started work on the inside. We lined the inside of the card with some white card stock. Next we added the stamping using black and colored inks. My son finished the card by coloring the images.

Fish Tank Birthday

February 3, 2017

My daughter made a card for her aunt today. Her aunt has a fish tank at her house that memorizes Reina every time we are there.

Details

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  We started with a stitched rectangle die cut. We stamped as many fish and accessories as we could on the die cut. My daughter used water color pencils to color in all of the images. After she was done, I used a water brush to smooth everything out.

I die cut some wood grain patterned paper with a large cross stitched rectangle die. I cut small strips from the edges of the die cut to create the top and bottom of the fish tank.

The sentiment was the last element we created for this card. Reina loves to use lots of colors when creating anything, so we used two colors on the sentiment. We stamped it on a scrap of water color paper and cut it down as small as we could. We didn’t want to cover up to much of the “fish tank.”

Lastly, we adhered everything to a card base.

Sunshiny Chick

January 31, 2017

My mother-in-laws birthday is coming up soon. My daughter wanted to make her a birthday card. Her favorite color is blue.

I found ink smooshing to be a quick way to create a lot of interesting cards. We made nine Thank You cards, three teacher valentine cards, and one birthday card in one afternoon.

Details

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 cards

Extra Details: We started by stamping the chick and frame images on some scrap water color paper. I used a grey ink for the frame and black ink for everything else. I used Distress Inks to water color all of the images.  Once the ink was dry I fussy cut everything out. I added a flower detail to the chick with some glitter gel pens.

Then, I created the card base from some more water color paper. I ink smooshed three shades of blue Distress ink on the front of the card base. I also flicked some of the extra ink on the card base to create interest.

Once that was dry, we attached the images using glue dots. The frame was attached with dimensional glue dots and the chick and accessories used flat glue dots.

Ink: Versa Fine
