Fungi Birthday

October 14, 2016

My nephew has a birthday coming up soon and my parents asked me to make them a card to send him. My nephew is becoming a pre-teen; this makes card making for him a bit harder. However, I think I came up with a card that he will enjoy.

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started with a black card base. Using Versa Mark ink, I clear embossed chevron strips on the card front. I also cut a stitched circle from the front of the card base.

Next, I cut two white panels from water color paper. One panel I cut with the Ellen Hudson Zipper Panel and this will go on the inside of the card. The other panel I cut with my paper trimmer. It will go on the inside front of the card and show through the die cut circle.

Next I started stamping. I traced the die cut circle on my front panel to get placement correct. Using a thin black Sharpie I added some shirts to the mushrooms. I was trying to get the mushrooms to look like my parents and my nephew.

I used Distress Inks as water colors when adding color to these images. Once the ink was dry, I felt that the mushrooms needed some ground. I had a scrap left from cutting out Lawn Fawn’s Grassy Border die and I used that as a mask. I used Mowed Lawn Distress Ink and a foam blending tool. I didn’t mask the mushrooms at all.

Lastly, I adhered the white panels to the card base and was done.

Flamingo Wedding

October 13, 2016

Today, I made another wedding card for my cousin. I really have no idea if he or his wife-to-be like flamingos, but I couldn’t resist using this sentiment.

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started by die cutting a stitched circle from water color paper. Then, I stamped the images on the circle with Versa Fine black ink. I used my Distress Inks as water colors when adding color to these images.

While the water coloring dried, I worked on the sentiment strip. I cut a thin strip form some black card stock. Using white embossing powder, I heat embossed the sentiment. I adhered the strip to the white card base and trimmed any excess off.

Before, I attached the stamped circle; I found a black circle to layer behind it. The black circle was left over from a different project and has clear embossed chevron strips on it. I adhered both circle to the card base and was done.

Pink and Gold Wedding Card

October 12, 2016

This is another wedding card for my cousin. My grandmother asked for a handmade card that was pretty but not sappy. So I used the wedding invite as inspiration for this card.

Size:  Horizontal side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started with a pink panel cut slightly smaller than an A2 card front. Using a circle die and a pencil, I lightly traced a circle on the card stock. Then I went through my stamp stash looking for any stamps that reminded me of the wedding invite. I found a bunch of dotted swirly stamps. Using Versa Mark ink and gold heat embossing powder, I created a design on my panel. I added some ink blending to the edges of the panel with Distress Inks to add interest.

Originally, this was intended to be a vertical card, but I could not find/create a Congratulations sentiment that would fit in my circle. So I turned the panel on its side. I stamped Congratulations on a strip of velum in Versa Fine black ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder. I added the gold hearts to the circle to fill in space.

Before adhering all of the elements together, I dipped the edges of the pink panel and the velum strip in Versa Mark ink and added some gold embossing powder. I love the way this turned out.

Lastly, I wrapped the velum strip around the pink panel and adhered everything to the white card base.

Wedding Books

October 11, 2016

One of my cousins is getting married this month. This is the card that my family will be giving to the happy couple. I find this card hilarious because my cousin works in a library and spends as much time reading as possible.

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started by die cutting a stitched rectangle from some water color paper. I stamped the books, details, and sentiment on the panel. The top hat is from Snow Cool. The pearl tiara is from Mermaid For You. Using a thin black Sharpie, I added arms, legs, and a veil.

Once all of the ink was dry, I used Distress Inks to add color to the images. I tried to keep the colors on the light side.

To finish the card, I layered a pink piece of card stock at an angle on my card base and trimmed off the parts that hung over. I adhered my stamped panel and was done.

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s Snow Cool, Mermaid for You, Happily Ever After, and Science of Love

Dies Used: Lawn Fawn’s Small Stitched Rectangles

Ink: Versa Fine

Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Mermaid Lagoon, Cracked Pistachio, Black Soot, Milled Lavender, Hickory Smoke, and Salty Ocean.

Here Comes the Dog

October 10, 2016

A friend of mine just adopted a dog and this is the card that I am going to send them.

Details

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started by creating a card base from water color paper. I ink smooshed some Distress Inks on the front of the card base. I used my acrylic block to apply the ink, which is now I got some straight-ish edges.

As the ink was drying, I began work on the focal images. I stamped, colored, and die cut one of the cute puppies from Simon Says Stamp and Lawn Fawn’s Happy Howlidays. I also stamped the speech bubble. While my die cut machine was out, I die cut three circle frames; one from black card stock, one from kraft card stock and one from white card stock. I also die cut a Tiny Tag from Lawn Fawn.

I dry embossing the kraft circle with a dotted embossing folder by Darcie. I also cut the kraft circle to look like the ground. I layered the white and black circle together to give the frame some dimension.

I adhered the circle frame to the now dry card base. I inlaid the kraft ground piece and attached the puppy and his speech bubble.

I stamped a sentiment on the Tiny Tag. I combined a few different sentiment from the Happy Howlidays set to create my sentiment. I colored the whole tag gold with some pigment ink; I just smooshed the ink pad on to the tag. Next, I adhered the tag to the card.

As a finishing touch, I added some paw print to the background. I used second generation stamping and an ink pad that is in need of re-inking. I like how subtle the paw prints are.

Sweet Halloween

October 9, 2016

I found a new Flikr Group, LOVE! – Hand made Cards, ATCs, and other crafts. They have a monthly challenge and I thought I would give it a try this month. The theme for this month is Coloring the Season with non-traditional colors. This is the card I came up with.

Details

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started by cutting a panel of water color paper to 5.5 x 3”. Using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Borders I added the cross stitch detail to the edge of the panel. I used washi tape to mask off a strip. I used six colors of Distress Inks to create my rainbow. Some of the images inked in one color and then added a second color to help the transitions between colors.

Once I finished the rainbow stamping, I peeled up the washi tape. I added a sentiment in the masked area. I combined two stamp sets to create my sentiment. I also added two more tiny images near my sentiment. I used a silver gel pen to outline my sentiment area.

Lastly, I adhered the panel to a black card base and the card was done.

Ghost Birthday

October 8, 2016

Cheri Moss just posted a video on the Lawn Fawn blog that used medical tape to create a “mummy” ish background. So, I raided my medicine cabinet and gave it a try.

Details

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started by clear embossing the chevron strips on a black card base. (I actually made four of these card bases which is why you have been so many of them on my blog lately.)

Next, I cut a piece of black card stock to about the size of a card front. I coved the card stock with the medical tape, making sure to overlap the tape and cover all of the black card stock. Using a stitched rectangle, I die cut the taped piece. Using the same stitched rectangle, I die cut a second piece of black card stock. From the second piece I also cut a grassy border strip and a forest border strip.

Using Distress Inks, I added some color to the taped panel. I attempted to make a moon scene. I left a white circle and progressively worked out from yellows to oranges. It is very hard to see, but adds some subtle interest.

I adhered the forest border flat to the taped panel. I heat embossed the sentiment in silver on the grass strip before popping it up on fun foam. I adhered the taped panel to my card base after that.

Lastly, I raided my box of pre colored and pre cut images. I found the wagon with the pumpkins, some pumpkins, and a little velum ghost. I added all of those to my card and it was done.

Pumpkin Face

October 7, 2016

The idea for this card came to me while wandering around my local craft store and looking at all the Halloween Decorations. I kept it sentiment free so that I can send it any time and for any reason in October.

Extra Details:  I started by clear embossing the chevron strips on a black card base. While those were cooling, I die cut a stitched rectangle from some water color paper. I stamped the images with Versa Fine black ink and used Ranger’s Holographic embossing powder. I used the back of the pizza slice from Lawn Fawn’s Pizza My Heart set to make the triangle shapes. I used two shades of Distress Ink to add color to my pumpkin face.

Lastly, I adhered the inked panel to the card base and the card was finished.

Pumpkin Party Invite

October 4, 2016

My son’s birthday is at the end of this month, which means it is time to party plan! This year, he wants a Halloween party with lots of pumpkins and Jack o’ Lanterns. Here is the invitation that will be mailed out this week.

Size:  Flip Fold Card; closed dimensions are 4.25” wide and 5” tall (included the circle die cut)

Extra Details:  I found a tutorial for this type of card on Christi Beck’s YouTube channel, called Stamp In Texas. Following her directions I created the card base and die cut a circle from the top right section of the card. I also cut a 4” x 4” white panel, a smaller black circle, a small white circle, and a 4” x 6” white panel.

I heat embossed “You’re Invited” with white embossing powder on the top flap. I added some orange glitter tape under the embossing and folded the extra over the edge.

Using masking, I created a lineup of pumpkins on the bottom of the square white panel. I added some Jack o’ Lantern faces with a thin black Sharpie. I stamped the ghost so he could hide under the top flap. I used colored pencils to add color to the scene. Then, I adhered the scene panel to the card base.

I layered the white circle on the black circle and stamped the Boo speech bubble. I added some colored pencil to the white circle as well. Then I adhered the circle to the scene panel where it pops out through circle die cut.

I added the party information and some stamping to the 4”x 6” panel and adhered it to the inside of the card. I love the way this invitation turned out.

Shaker Fall Thanks Tree

October 3, 2016

My son and I had fun creating a shaker card today. I received a package of sequins from Simon Says Stamp when I won a Blog Candy from them. The sequins reminded my son of fall leaves.

29774280015_4d8e29426e_o

Details

Size:  Horizontal side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  we started this card by raiding my box of pre-colored and pre-cut images and grabbed the bear, grassy border, speech bubble die cut, and a kraft frame.

I created a card base form white card stock and stamped a tree image directly on the card base. I first stamped the tree in brown dye ink and then re-stamped it in copper pigment ink. Neither stamping came out perfectly smooth and even, but I love the way the tree looks in the end.

Then, I added the speech bubble to the inside of the frame. I stamped the sentiment in the copper pigment ink.

Next, I adhered a layer of clear plastic on the kraft frame. I added the sequins on the top of the plastic and enclosed it with another layer of the plastic. Then, I adhered the shaker frame to the card base. I used way too much sequins when making this card.

Lastly, I added the grassy border and the bear to the card. After, I adhered the grassy border; I felt that it looked really plain. So I added some chevron stamping in green dye ink. I think I should have used a Versa Mark ink instead.
