Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started with a card base made from water color paper. Using a mini round ink blending tool, I ink blending three Distress Inks on the card front. I used Candied Apple, Picked Raspberry, and Spun Sugar. I started with the darkest color and the top and tried to fade out to white at the bottom. I let the ink dry overnight.

Using Versa Mark Ink, I stamped and clear embossed a heart pattern on the ink blended card front. I used the small heart stamps from Lawn Fawn’s Science of Love Stamp set. After I had melted the embossing powder, I place a damp paper towel over the whole card front. I love the effect that the damp paper towel created.

While the card base dried again, I die cut a puffy cloud border from a scrap of water color paper. I stamped the sentiment and bird images on the cloud. I used the same Distress Inks to water color the bird images.

I added the rest of the sentiment to the inside of the card. Lastly, I adhered the cloud border to the card front once everything was dry.

Octopi Zentangle

February 12, 2017

Sandy Allnock created a card using Lawn Fawn’s Octopi My Heart. She created a beautiful Zentangle type of background. Once I watched her video, I knew I had to try it. Here is my take on her idea.

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started with a panel of white card stock. I stamped as many octopi as I could fit on the panel. Then, I added the large heart in the spaces between the octopi. I filled in the remaining areas with the three bubbles, small heart and small bubble. I loved the way the background turned out, but I thought it needed a little color. I used some glitter pink gel pen to outline the large hearts. It was the perfect touch.

Next, I created a pink card base. I tried to match the cardstock to the glitter gel pen color. Using a stitched rectangle die, I cut my stamped panel at an angle. I also cut some black card stock using the same die. I layered the black card stock behind the stamped piece, offsetting them a bit. I adhered both to the card front. Then, I stamped the sentiment.

I couldn’t bear to waste the extra stamped background, so I added it to the inside of the card. I added a sentiment to the inside and the card was done.

Floral Wreath

February 7, 2017

Sometime in the last month, I watched a card tutorial on YouTube that had a floral heart and fell in love with it. I, of course, do not own the stamp set that was used, so I made do with what I had.

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  This is a one layer card. I started with a white card base. I started by stamping the triangles in the background with a light grey ink. I wanted to add some interest to the card but not take away from the floral wreath too much.

Then, I carefully traced my heart die in pencil on the card front. Then, I stamped the florals around the heart shape. I erased the pencil mark, but felt that the heart shape wasn’t obvious enough, so I re-traced the die with a silver gel pen. I added some of the silver gel pen to the silver dots on the edges of the floral wreath. The sentiment is silver heat embossed.

Welcome Fairy Baby

February 4, 2017

I am attending a baby shower for a friend next weekend and needed a card.  I also just bought the Puffy Cloud Borders and wanted to play with them. My friend is expecting her third child and first girl, so I went all out girly!

Details

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started with a whole sheet of water color paper. I used half of it to make the card base, and the other half for the cloud borders and fairies. I die cut all of the borders first. Then, I played with the layout. Once I had decided on the placement, I ink blended some Distress Inks on the top edges of the cloud borders. I stamped some stars all over the clouds with the same distress inks. I used second generation stamping to achieve a softer color. Then, I adhered the cloud layers to the card base.

Using the scraps from the water color paper, I stamped and heat embossed the fairies. I used silver embossing powder. I used the same ink color for the fairies’ dresses that I used on the cloud borders. Once the fairies were dry, I fussy cut them out.

For the sentiment, I found some dotted velum in my scrap bin. I silver embossed the sentiment and then used a banner die cut to cut them out. I folded the welcome banner to give it some dimension. I used glue dots behind the letters on the banners to adhere it to the cloud layers. Lastly, I adhered the fairies with dimensional glue dots.

Fish Tank Birthday

February 3, 2017

My daughter made a card for her aunt today. Her aunt has a fish tank at her house that memorizes Reina every time we are there.

Details

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  We started with a stitched rectangle die cut. We stamped as many fish and accessories as we could on the die cut. My daughter used water color pencils to color in all of the images. After she was done, I used a water brush to smooth everything out.

I die cut some wood grain patterned paper with a large cross stitched rectangle die. I cut small strips from the edges of the die cut to create the top and bottom of the fish tank.

The sentiment was the last element we created for this card. Reina loves to use lots of colors when creating anything, so we used two colors on the sentiment. We stamped it on a scrap of water color paper and cut it down as small as we could. We didn’t want to cover up to much of the “fish tank.”

Lastly, we adhered everything to a card base.

A Bushel and A Peck

February 1, 2017

Valentine’s Day is approaching faster than I care to think about. My kiddos already have their valentine’s for their classmates planned, but weren’t sure what to do for their teachers. I found the Thanks a Bushel stamp set and was inspired.

Extra Details: I started by stamping and water coloring the apple baskets. I used Distress Inks as water colors for these images. Once the ink was dry, I fussy cut them out.

I die cut three cross stitched rectangles from water color paper. I used two shades of red Distress Ink to ink smoosh the backgrounds. I added some splatter with Black Soot Distress Ink for interest.

Once the backgrounds were dry, I stamped the small heart in red ink for added interest. Then, I added the sentiments in Versa Fine ink.

I made three card bases from gray card stock. Using a grey ink, I repeatedly stamped a sentiment on each card base. I changed the orientation on each card base just because I could.

I adhered the inked panels to the card bases and the cards were complete.
