I know that everyone and their mother have made some sort of slider card with the mermaids from Mermaid For You. I tried to resist, I really did, but I couldn’t…. so here is my version.
The front of the card
The back of the card
Size: Vertical top fold A2 card
Extra Details: I started by die cutting a stitched rectangle from some water color paper. I also die cut two circles from the same rectangle to make my top layer. I stamped the coral, seaweed, and fish images in bright Distress Inks. Using VersaMark ink I stamped on top of the images again and heat embossed them all with clear embossing powder. I also stamped the sentiment in VersaMark and heat embossed that. Once all the embossing powder was cool, I began water coloring. I used the same ink color to fill in the shell and fish. I added three colors of blue to fill in the rest of the background. I tried to get an ombre effect. I was careful around the shell and the fish, but went right over the coral because that was protected by the clear embossing powder.
While the front panel was drying, I prepped my card base. I used water color paper to make my card base. I used the same blue Distress Inks to add a light wash on the front of the card that would show under the spinner track.
I also stamped the narwhale because he is so cute. I couldn’t fit him on the front of the card, so I put him on the back. I added layers of different colors to the mermaid tails to get the color I wanted.
Once everything was dry, I began assembly. I first adhered the big front panel to the card base with fun foam. I added DIY foam squares to three pennies and slide them in against the edge of the circle. I popped the center water color circle up on fun foam and adhered that in the center. I made sure the parts of the pennies were under both circles. Lastly I adhered the mermaids to the pennies.
I love the way this card tuned out.
