Birthday Cards with the Kiddos

November 13, 2016

It is time to make birthday cards at my house again. Both of my kiddos have a friend with a birthday in the coming week.

This is the card my son made for a little girl in his class. Her favorite colors are purple and pink.

This is the card my daughter made to mail family friend for his 6th birthday.

Size:  Both cards are standard A2 card

Extra Details:  We started by stamping the images on a panel of water color paper. I used some masking on the deer card. Once the ink was dry, the kiddos colored their images with Crayola markers. While, the kiddos were coloring, I added some images to the colored card bases.

For the pink card, we die cut the images with a Polaroid die. I die cute two extra frames and layered them together with liquid glue. We glued the Polaroid frame to the card base, added the inside picture and the card was done.

For the blue card, I fussy cut the images along the top edge. I had smeared some ink while stamping on the top of the panel, so I just cut off the smeared part off. We attached the stamped piece with dimensional glue dots and the card was done.

Halloween Treat Boxes

October 31. 2016

These are the treat boxes my children made for their classmates. Each box had a Halloween tempory tattoo, the skeleton sunglasses, and a very small piece of candy in it.

Size:  Pillow boxes made from 6 x 6 patterned paper.

Extra Details:  I die cut the stitched rectangles from white cardstock. I stamped the sentiments and images on each rectangle. Using water color pencils I add some color to the edges of each rectangle. Once dry, the children signed their names.

I cut some 12 x 12 patterned paper into 6 x 6 squares. I used the We R Memory Keepers pillow box punch board to create the pillow boxes. I stuffed all the goodies inside and attached the rectangles to the outside. The glasses wouldn’t fit, so I just tucked the arms into the boxes.

S’more Fun With You

October 19, 2016

Last weekend, my family and I were invited to a bonfire at a friend’s house. We had a great time roasting marshmallows and playing with their new dog.

This is the thank you card that the kiddos and I created to thank our friends.

Size:  Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I wanted to make a one layer card so I started by creating a card base from water color paper.  Next I stamped the images on the card base. I only masked the single marshmallow on the stick. I wanted that marshmallow to be on fire and on the stick. We burned quite a few marshmallows that night.

I added the sentiment on the top section of the card and used a thin black Sharpie to draw in the horizon line.

I used some water color pencils to color the whole card. The kiddos helped me with the grass and sky. It worked out great. I was able to add water to smooth out the coloring. I kept the color away from the sentiment so that it would remain readable. Once the card was dry I was able to mail it.

Pony Birthday Party

October 16, 2016

My daughter and I made this card last month for a birthday party she was invited to. I typed a blog post and them my computer ate it and refused to give it back. I have finally decided to try this blog post again.

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started by covering a standard white card base in a piece of patterned paper. I also die cut a stitched rectangle from some water color paper. From the stitched rectangle, I partially die cut a stitched circle. To make the partial die cutting look finished, I added a stitched detail to the straight edge.

Next up is the stamping. I stamped the ponies and cake on a separate piece of paper. My daughter colored the images in with her Crayola markers. On the stitched rectangle piece, I added some banners and the sentiment. I fussy cut the ponies and cake once my daughter was finished coloring.

Now it is time to assemble the card. I added some clear plastic to the back of the semi-circle die cut. I added fun foam to the back of the same panel. My daughter added the sequins to the window and we adhered the card base to the stamped panel.

To finish the card, we attached the ponies and cake to the front of the card.

Pumpkin Party Invite

October 4, 2016

My son’s birthday is at the end of this month, which means it is time to party plan! This year, he wants a Halloween party with lots of pumpkins and Jack o’ Lanterns. Here is the invitation that will be mailed out this week.

Size:  Flip Fold Card; closed dimensions are 4.25” wide and 5” tall (included the circle die cut)

Extra Details:  I found a tutorial for this type of card on Christi Beck’s YouTube channel, called Stamp In Texas. Following her directions I created the card base and die cut a circle from the top right section of the card. I also cut a 4” x 4” white panel, a smaller black circle, a small white circle, and a 4” x 6” white panel.

I heat embossed “You’re Invited” with white embossing powder on the top flap. I added some orange glitter tape under the embossing and folded the extra over the edge.

Using masking, I created a lineup of pumpkins on the bottom of the square white panel. I added some Jack o’ Lantern faces with a thin black Sharpie. I stamped the ghost so he could hide under the top flap. I used colored pencils to add color to the scene. Then, I adhered the scene panel to the card base.

I layered the white circle on the black circle and stamped the Boo speech bubble. I added some colored pencil to the white circle as well. Then I adhered the circle to the scene panel where it pops out through circle die cut.

I added the party information and some stamping to the 4”x 6” panel and adhered it to the inside of the card. I love the way this invitation turned out.

Shaker Fall Thanks Tree

October 3, 2016

My son and I had fun creating a shaker card today. I received a package of sequins from Simon Says Stamp when I won a Blog Candy from them. The sequins reminded my son of fall leaves.

Size:  Horizontal side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  we started this card by raiding my box of pre-colored and pre-cut images and grabbed the bear, grassy border, speech bubble die cut, and a kraft frame.

I created a card base form white card stock and stamped a tree image directly on the card base. I first stamped the tree in brown dye ink and then re-stamped it in copper pigment ink. Neither stamping came out perfectly smooth and even, but I love the way the tree looks in the end.

Then, I added the speech bubble to the inside of the frame. I stamped the sentiment in the copper pigment ink.

Next, I adhered a layer of clear plastic on the kraft frame. I added the sequins on the top of the plastic and enclosed it with another layer of the plastic. Then, I adhered the shaker frame to the card base. I used way too much sequins when making this card.

Lastly, I added the grassy border and the bear to the card. After, I adhered the grassy border; I felt that it looked really plain. So I added some chevron stamping in green dye ink. I think I should have used a Versa Mark ink instead.

Fintastic Birthday Shaker Card

May 8, 2016

My father in law’s birthday is coming up soon. The kiddos and I made him this shaker card. The kids painted everything with their cheapy water color set and I cut everything out. I combined a sentiment from Fintastic Friends and Loveable Legends for this card. I did put too many fish in the shaker portion but otherwise I think it turned out very well.

The outside

I glued some of the left over pieces on the inside of the card also.

Size: Horizontal top folding A2 card

Extra Details: The images and sentiment were heat embossed with gold embossing powder before water coloring. I used a gold gel pen to add details to the sand

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s Fintastic Friends, So Jelly, Loveable Legends and Woodgrain Backdrops

Dies Used: Lawn Fawn’s Small Stitched Rectangles and Speech Bubble border

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s Bee Mine, Fairy Friends, and Mom + Me

Tutu Sweet Card

My kiddos have a pen pal that they exchange cards with. This was the most recent card we sent. My daughter designed the card layout.

Size: Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  The frame behind the dance was ink blended with Distress Inks. We also flicked some water on it to add some cool distress marks. I colored the dancer in with colored pencils.
