Water Color Fairy Scene

August 2, 2016

I needed a birthday card for a sweet little girl who is just turning one. I had a lot of fun with card. I stamped the scene using Distress Inks to give it a no line coloring feel, but without all the really hard work.

Extra Details:  I started with a 4.25 x 5.5 panel of water color paper. Using Distress Inks, I stamped all of the images. I smooshed more Distress Ink on my acrylic block to finish the water coloring. After all the images where complete, I filled in the background with a light wash of Twisted Citron and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks.

Fishy Congrats

July 29, 2016

One of my cousins just bought her first house. So I started digging through my stamp collection and this is what I came up with.

Size:  Horizontal top fold A2 card

Extra Details: I started by dry embossing the teal cardstock on the background. I used a dotted embossing folder from Darice. I dry embossed it three times, offsetting it each time to get a lot of different layers. I then blended some Distress Inks on top of the card stock to help the texture show.

Then, I created the focal strip. I used a bit of masking when stamping but it was pretty basic stamping. I colored everything in with colored pencils. I tried to make the small circle at the bottom of the tank look like a soccer ball. My cousin loves soccer and no home would be complete without at least one soccer ball. I added some ink blending to the edges for added interest.

Lastly, I adhered everything to a card base. I popped the focal strip up on fun foam.

Red Fish Blue Fish

July 20, 2016

I was looking through my stamp collection and found a sentiment I want to play with.

Size:  Vertical side fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started with a 4.25 x 5.5” panel of water color paper. I stamped and heat embossed all of the images. For the sentiment and focal fish, I used white embossing powder. For the colorful coral and seaweed, I used VersaMark ink over my Distress Inks and clear embossing powder. For the fish, I used VersaFine ink and clear embossing ink. After the embossing was cooled, I ink blended my background. I used four shades of blue Distress ink. I added some water spots to add texture. Then I ink blended again so the water spots wouldn’t stand out too much.

While ink blending I didn’t worry about my images, so I added some clean water on them and picked it up with a paper towel. The water pulled up enough of the ink, so I could add other colors. I used Distress Inks again to water color the images.

I die cut a small stitched circle around the sentiment and red fish. I adhered the small circle flat to the card base. I popped the rest of the panel up on fun foam and the card was done.

Mice Birthday

July 13, 2016

This card was inspired by a Leslie Oman card. I loved the card and have a friend who also loves anything to do with cheese, so I made her a birthday card.

Details

Size: Vertical top fold A2 card

Extra Details:  I started by die cutting a stitched rectangle from water color paper. Then, I die cut stitched circles in three sizes. I used each of the sizes a few times. I saved the positive circles as well. Then I added some Distress ink. I used an ink blending tool to add a variety of yellows to the rectangles layer. I made the circles a darker shade of yellow.

As the inked panels dried, I stamped the mice and other images on a separate piece of water color paper. I used more Distress Inks to water color them in. Once they were dry, I fussy cut them out and painted the edges with a black marker.

Next, I started assembling the card. I used a light grey cardstock for the card base. I popped the rectangular inked panel up on fun foam. I glued the circles flat to the card base. Then, I started gluing down the mice. I added tails on with a thin black Sharpie marker. Lastly, I added a banner with the sentiment. I also added an extra mouse on the banner.

Challenges: I am entering this card in Lawnscaping Challenge #133 Mood Board.

I wasn’t planning on entering this card. Once i looked at the finished card, I noticed that the colors and shapes reminded me on this mood board.
