Lucy’s Magical Birthday Book

July 3, 2016

One of my daughter’s best friends is turning six this month. My daughter wanted to make something special for her. We decided to make her a Color Your Own Birthday Card. It soon became a whole story that wouldn’t fit on just four panels, so it turned into a Color Your Own Birthday Book.

Size:  Horizontal side fold 4.5 x 6” card

Extra Details:  I started by cutting two sheets of water color paper in half. I scored each to create my book. I made a rough story board, so that I would know which stamps I would need for which pages. First, I stamped the decorative stamps on the corners and between the panels. I used Lawn Fawn’s Frosties stamps. Using a thin black sharpie, I connected parts of the snowflakes to make them look more like flowers. Working one page at a time, I created my scenes. There was a lot of masking involved. I wanted this to be a coloring book. So, for some of the solid images I used, I stamped them in Fog ink, and outlined them with the thin black Sharpie. I wrote most of the text in my own handwriting. I added a few extra details with the same thing black Sharpie; the apron on the mouse in the frame, the horizon lines, and the pile of decorations. Lastly, I had sewed the two layers together to create the book. I did add some pink marker to the title to help it stand out.

Stamps Used: Lawn Fawn’s Baked with Love, Dad + Me, Fairy Friends, Fintastic Friends, Flirty Frames, Frosties, Into the Woods, Lovable Legends, Mermaid for You, Merry Christmouse, Milk and Cookies, Mom + Me, Peace Joy Love, Sally’s ABCs, To a Fungi, and Year Two

Farm Birthday

July 1, 2016

When it rains, it pours here. In the course of 5 days, we have three birthdays. This year all the birthday kiddos are celebrating their first or second birthdays. This card is for little boy who is turning two today.

Extra Details:  I started with a panel of water color paper that I die cut with a stitched rectangle die. I stamped my scene in grey ink. I used post it notes to make masks for the birthday hats and balloons. I used Crayola colored pencils to color the scene. I tried layering a lot of colors for some dimension. I adhered the panel to a kraft card base and was done. I think this card turned out pretty cool.

I used post it notes to make masks for the birthday hats and balloons. I used Crayola markers to color the scene. I wanted brighter color than I can get with colored pencils. However, I am not good at creating shading with the markers I have. I adhered the panel to a kraft card base and was done.

Fairy Birthday

June 26, 2016

I realized this morning that I needed a birthday card for a sweet little two year old girl and I needed it in a few hours. This is the card that I made.

Details

Size:  Horizontal side fold 5×7 card

Extra Details:  I started by stamping everything on the white panel. I used post it tape to mask off the birthday hats, balloons, and gifts to the feel of dimension on a flat panel. I used Simon Says Stamp Smoke ink to give everything a softer look. I stamped the sentiment in Simon Says Stamp Slate ink to help it stand out a bit. I colored everything in with colored pencils. I added a few details with my gold and silver gel pens. I noticed the lower left corner was a bit bare so I added some greenery.

Next I prepped my card base. I knew my card base would be much bigger than my panel so I did some tone on tone stamping on it. I also added a thin pink frame I had left over from another project. I had used the Stitched Border Dies to add detail to the pink paper.

I popped the white panel up on fun foam and adhered the frame around it.

Fintastic Birthday Shaker Card

May 8, 2016

My father in law’s birthday is coming up soon. The kiddos and I made him this shaker card. The kids painted everything with their cheapy water color set and I cut everything out. I combined a sentiment from Fintastic Friends and Loveable Legends for this card. I did put too many fish in the shaker portion but otherwise I think it turned out very well.

Brickwork Birthday Card

April 14, 2016

I made this for a family friend, who is now official a teenager. I wanted something that felt more grown up than usual. I remember wanting to be seen as an adult at that age.

Pizza Party Cupcakes

January 27, 2016

When I updated my blog in February 2016, I lost all the posting I had already done. I am doing my best to put the posts back up but I do not remember all the details for each card.  Unfortunately, the details for this project may be a bit scarce.

My daughter is having a “Make Your Own Pizza” Party at our local pizzeria for her birthday. Each child will get to make and eat their own pizza while at the party. But what party is complete without cake? So I made “pizza” cupcakes. They are chocolate cupcakes topped with red butter cream frosting. I also piped on a “crust” of brown butter cream frosting. The children at the party added their own white chocolate “cheese” and mini M&M “toppings” to their “pizza” cupcakes.

Pizza Party Aprons

January 27, 2016

When I updated my blog in February 2016, I lost all the posting I had already done. I am doing my best to put the posts back up but I do not remember all the details for each card.  Unfortunately, the details for this project may be a bit scarce.

These are the party favors for my daughter’s pizza birthday party. I made each child an apron to wear while they were making their pizza. My daughter picked out two fabrics that coornidated nicely. These fabrics helped to decide the colors for the party.

Instead of a birthday crown, I made the birthday girl a baker’s hat.
